Pre Game Show Antics
On Friday, September 28th, 2024, I woke up super excited to head to the Tokyo Game Show, but the weather wasn’t on my side—it was pouring! I hopped on the bus, already day dreaming about all the games and publishers I wanted to visit and in the process totally missed my stop.

Thankful Umbrella Tokyo Game Show

It was raining hard and I hadn’t brought an umbrella. Just when I thought my day might take a turn for the worse, the kind bus driver surprised me with an unexpected act of kindness. As I was getting off the bus, prepared to brave the rain without an umbrella, he handed me one, smiling as he wished me good luck for the day. I couldn’t believe it— Seriously, such a sweet moment! Now, I was finally on my way to the show, feeling pumped, and I can’t wait to share the whole experience with you!

AI and Gaming: The Future of Development

Pepper AI Robot Tokyo Game Show

One of the most talked-about areas of TGS 2024 is the AI Technology Pavilion, where tech firms are showing how artificial intelligence is shaping the future of gaming. Of particular interest is HechicerIA, a startup from Spain that has developed software capable of converting text into 3D video content within minutes. This innovation could dramatically reduce the development time for new games, giving developers more freedom to focus on gameplay, narrative, and design.

Imagine typing a simple sentence like “a man walks in a steampunk diner and finds a portal,” and the software instantly generates a fitting 3D environment. For game developers, the potential is revolutionary.

There is of course extra emphasis placed on working with human artists so as to utilize the technology as a tool to make the work of artists easier. Be ethical with AI people!
